What is anxiety?
Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased heart rate. Anxiety is a natural human response, but when it becomes overwhelming or constant, it can interfere with daily life, relationships, and even spiritual well-being. Anxiety can show up in various parts of our life – parenting, relationships, work, finance, religion, the future, etc. If not managed, over time it can lead to exhaustion, avoidance an even a sense of paralysis.
What are some symptoms of anxiety:
Anxiety can show up in the way we feel, in our thoughts and in our body
- Thoughts: trouble concentrating, racing thoughts, wanting to run away, worried we will mess up and people viewing us negatively
- Feelings: sadness, overwhelm, constant fear and worry
- Body Sensations: Rapid breathing, sweating, shaking, increased heart rate, trouble sleeping, gut issues
