It is defined by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) as, treating, by means of psychotherapy technique, delivered through a therapeutic relationship, an individual’s serious disorder of thought, cognition, mood, emotional regulation, perception or memory that may seriously impair the individual’s judgement, insight, behaviour, communication or social functioning.

The free consultation call will allow you to speak with a therapist, ask questions and get a feel for whether you want to work together or not. There is no obligation to schedule a session during the initial consultation.

Please refer to the Resources Tab on this website and click on Client Rights for a step by step guide on how to get the most out of consultation calls.

Typically during an initial we explain what the therapeutic process will look like and go over policies and procedures such as confidentiality and payment process. After obtaining client’s consent, we will begin the session. During the initial session,  we will be doing a lot of information gathering so that we have a good understanding of client concerns in order to come up with a treatment plan that caters to the client’s unique needs. By the end of the session, together we will identify 1-3 goals that client would like to work on.

Ultimately it is the client’s decision to decide the frequency of sessions and how long they would like to work with a therapist. The client’s decision about the frequency of sessions is sometimes impacted by their schedule, the urgency of their concerns, and budgeting. Some clients prefer to show up regularly while others schedule sessions on an as needed basis. We have found over the years that typically between 6-12 sessions are needed for clients to achieve their therapy goals.

For various reasons, clients may decide they do not wish to continue working with a specific therapist or continuing therapy. The client has the right to terminate sessions when they want. If it is a matter of fit, we can help support the client with finding another therapist.

Fees for sessions may be covered in part or fully, depending on client’s work coverage. Clients will need to check with their benefit plan for details

We do not do direct billing, but will provide a receipt to be submitted by the client to insurance providers for reimbursement.
